Widely known as "Mr. Pipeline" and recognized as the best tube rider in the world and the last soul surfer, Gerry Lopez is one of the most influential surfers in the history of the sport.
His smooth, innovative style and calm approach in the water established him as one of surfing’s most respected and iconic figures. Born and raised on Oahu, Hawaii, Lopez won the Hawaii State Surfing Championship at just 14 years old. He later cemented his place in surfing history with victories at the Pipeline Masters in 1972 and 1973, a competition that has since been renamed the Gerry Lopez Pipeline Masters in recognition of his lasting impact on the sport.
Beyond his accomplishments as a professional surfer, Lopez has built a remarkable legacy as an entrepreneur, surfboard shaper, writer, actor and ambassador for the surfing lifestyle. Through decades of competition, craftsmanship and storytelling, he has inspired countless athletes and outdoor enthusiasts to pursue excellence while maintaining a deep respect for nature and community.
